On Being a Wedding DJ

Being a wedding DJ is difficult. I fully understand this now that I've made the dance playlist for my friend's wedding. The challenge that you are given is to please everyone, which just happens to be the exact same reason why I generally dislike wedding music. It is my challenge to please the masses—grandparents, parents, and young'in's alike—yet not be ashamed if a stranger looks at the songs in my iPod.

I think that I have a suitable arraignment of guilty pleasures to keep everyone dancing and happy. God, I hope so, because I honestly don't know how much more Prince, disco and funk I can take. For your pleasure, I cut together very short segments of the first 20 dance songs, so you can get a taste of what I am talking about.

The Wonders of the Post

Australia has a wonderful postal system which is much better than the sullen version found in the States. Walk into a Post store, and you will quickly see why. It is as if Office Depot and the Postal Service decided to join forces into one amazingly useful store. Maybe you want to pay some bills why you are sending a letter? The Post will take your cash and give it to the right utility company at no extra charge.

I could walk over to my local Post, pay a bill, buy some ink for my printer, buy a new cell phone, pick up a money order, and probably a few more things I haven't even heard of yet. And best thing is that the postal workers seems relatively happy and talkative, as if they are pretty satisfied with what they do.

I just don't see any of these employees going postal. All of which is a pleasant change from my the barely functioning New York postal system, which I always dreaded having to stand on line for anything, not to mention the unknown number of packages that never managed to make it to the door.

So if you guys want some postcards, I'll be happy to send them.

Bansky Retains Hero Status

I found in my perusing of the web yesterday, I came upon this BBC story that Banksy has moved from stencil graffiti to placing his own pirated versions of Paris Hilton's new album in major retail stores throughout Britain. His version has Bansky-modified artwork as well as his own remix of those quality Hilton hits. And as they are being sold as if they where the real thing—the bar code is identical—so I am thinking that the type of person who would actually buy a Paris Hilton album would never notice anything at all. None of the CDs have been returned.

Of course, one never gets famous now in days if you don't film it:

It's A Shame To Lose Steve Irwin

Being in Australia, I feel that I should say something about the Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin. If you want a succinct description of what happened, please check out Wikipedia's entry on Australia's biggest icon. LINK. He was a good guy, and I'm sad to see him pass on.

It's 1:02 AM here. The first entry was put in at 4:13 PM, which is only minutes before I heard it from Christy. What she heard from the rumour mill, she tells me, is exactly spot on to what actually happened, down to the names of the kids and that the wife hearing of the news while on a walking tour in Tasmania. Funny then that rumors and wikis were both more informative than the evening news.

By my quick count, there have been 552 edits on this article. The wiki folks locked the page down after some vandalism got out of hand (iVandals?), but I think that it is worth a look to have a look at the history and compare the changes everyone made. LINK.

I'm going to have to leave it at that because it is time for me to get some sleep.
