Ommmm Ommm Omm Om

Let's close our eyes and breath for a minute. Yes, the weekend is almost here.

Don't you feel better now?

Anyhow, sometimes I come up with a title that I really like, but has no real story that goes with it. Today is such a day.

Still, there are so many things to discuss today. I'm going to leave it you to find out what's going on over in the House of Bush. If the whole matter is a little confusing, then let me cloud things a little more. I suspect that things will clear up soon, but let's leave the pundits and politicos alone for now.

What's on my mind today is home improvement. Let me tell you, it is a great thing. Last night I had a great time, of all things, painting a wall. I painted one of my walls of my room blue, Pantone 292 of course. The act of painting is very calming. I think that I could be inspired to take on other rooms in the house, if I could get my act together (my roommate as well) and buy all the perfect shades of paint.

I hope my fun wasn't all from of the toxic fumes.

This is all part of a big push to get the house ready before the Halloween party tomorrow. I'd like to get some of my art framed next, but drink-buying, costume-making and party-supplying are going to take precedent. Gotta get ready for the celebrations. Soon comes the pirate partye (sic) of 736 Saint Johns, 4 Rrrrrrr.

A Brief Requiem for 2,000 Yanks and some 30,000 Iraqis

I'm not able to offer you my own requiem for you at the moment, but let us take a moment—with the help of a popular online site for buying things—to think about the consequences of a long protracted conflict with no foreseeable ending.

For All You Astute Readers, Yes, I Am Bad Speller

After two consecutive posts with egregious spelling errors, I must admit that I am the worst speller ever. You would think that I would have learned how to use the correct words in the correct places, and that I'd be able to adeptly use the spell-checker to replace misspelled words with the correct ones. Alas, this is not the case. Who know what words I'll be abusing in this posting. It is always a surprise to me.

I'm sorry folks. 'Mr. Run Amok' here needs an editor to reign him in. First it's the bad spelling, next it's lying about weapons of mass destruction. (For those of you who get that last reference, this is going to be an interesting week. For those of you who don't, just be sure to read the news this week. Big things are afoot.)

I have an update on my band, Hurricane Alpha. We have decided to break up. We dissipated at 5 p.m. yesterday, when the drummer and the bassist hooked up with Wilma over the night and decided they wanted to rain on New York. Like they are even going to make it. Shoot, without the hula pirate girls, they are just going to die out in the Atlantic. Maybe we will all meet up again in Scotland.

Hurricane Alpha Should Be My Band Name

If I were to start a band, it would have to be called Hurricane Alpha. It would play tropical music—you know the ukuleles and hula skirt kind—really fast and really loud. All the small wooden instruments would be hooked up to huge amps and bucketfuls of wawa peddles. All of the hula dancers would look like they just jumped off a pirate ship and their dancing would be more aptly described as pillaging. Any place my band would play would be decimated, and in such a way that the insurance companies wouldn't pay for any of it.

I've already thought of a few songs "Water Damage, Wind Damage; You Got No House," "FEMA, Where's My Dog?," and my favorite "I'm Getting Your Town Next."

Check out our next tour dates.

Too Quiet In Cubicle Land

Ah, good radio at work. Finally. That is so nice. I've started listening to KTRU, perhaps the only good thing to come out of Houston, because I don't get good "reception" of KCRW of LA. I think that too many people in my office are listening to KCRW, so the signal cuts out every half hour or so. And that's annoying. I'm glad to have sorted this out, as it's way too quiet in here....

I'm not fulling giving up on KCRW mind you. There is this great list of live shows that they have. It's a wonderful way to pass the time, if you are looking to do so.

I should get back to work.

Stuck on the Tracks

I'm not sure what I was thinking yesterday when I went to the DMV. This is not something that you should do on your birthday, even if your license expires on that day. But this is what I did yesterday, and yesterday I spent my entire morning staring at this big electronic number-board till my number came up. Then I had to do it again, with a new number. In a slower line. And I have to go back again on Monday, just for good measure. Bad things come in threes, they say?

When I was sitting in the DMV, I realized something. My drivers license, dare I say without sounding un-American, has become an abstract concept to me. I was a little shocked to think that I have no idea how many months it's been since I've driven. I've almost had full road to rail conversion. But sitting there in the DMV, I realized an unexpected consequence of this conversion. The MAN has a much harder time sticking it too you when you are car-less.

My driver's license is expired now. I can't drive without fear of jail time. While this is mildly annoying, it is mainly annoying in a theoretical sense. I can't rent a car this weekend, dang it. I can't get out of town unless I snake a ride from a friend, which I in fact intend to do. So take that, the MAN.

And I dare say the face of authority has softened in my mind, due in large part that I am not worrying that there is a cop hidden behind the next hill waiting to stop me for speeding. There are lots of hills out there you know, and all it takes is just one shot from the radar gun. These are the sort of things that make you paranoid. Or law abiding?

It's my birthday!

Woot!

It's 3-0 time for me folks... No more of this twenty stuff, it's all wisdom from here on out. Aww Yeah.

Cheers

Thanks Columbus!

I had, for the first time I can remember, this Monday off. It's pretty nice that this place where I go to my bills makes my birthday week a short week. I wish that more people would celebrate Columbus day so that I could depend on a three day weekend right around the time I get a little older. Alas, I doubt that this will ever happen, unless I decide to switch careers and become a banker.

Yep folks, I'm getting older. Come tomorrow, October 12, I will no longer be a twenty-something. I will have passed the threshold into the land of the thirties. Not really sure what that means, other than it's time to get a new drivers license. I suppose that I should have my act all together by now or something. Um yeah, like that's happened.

I guess that I'm a little wiser, but I'm far from being the wise man on the mountain. I may be wise enough to sit on top of a hill. Still, I'm just happy to be living a good life, and things all in all are going as well as they can be.

Sorry About The Delay

Some technical issues there last week. Any time I seem to do any fidgeting with the back-end of this site, it breaks. This time was no different. Everything is back in order now, and I can get back to writing on this thing. Thanks for your patience.
